Pastor and Deacons

The Office of Elder

God's Word established an office of the church called Elder, and charged these men with the responsibility of leading the church. Elders are servants of Christ and the church and view their tasks as spiritual ministries for the Lord. The elders manage and shepherd the church by teaching biblical truth (Titus 1:9); modeling Christ-like behavior (1 Timothy 3:2); maintaining doctrinal purity (Acts 20:29-30); disciplining unrepentant believers (Galatians 6:1); praying for those who are ill  (James 5:13-15); attending to the spiritual, physical, material and social needs of the congregation; developing future spiritual leaders (2 Timothy 2:2); promoting missions; seeking to discern God's will concerning the vision and direction of the church; and overseeing financial matters (Acts 11:30).

The church is currently served by Pastor Paul and the deacons who are happy to assist you in any way we can. Send your questions or comments to: pastorpaul@lighthousebaptistva.com

Pastor Paul is a graduate of Piedmont International University with his Bachelors in Bible. He has his Masters degree in Church Ministry from Shepherds Theological Seminary in Cary, NC and is currently completing his Master of Divinity.

Before coming to Lighthouse Baptist Church he was pastor of Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Florida and Cornerstone Bible Church in North Carolina.

Pastor Paul has a wonderful wife Morgan and sons Titus and Henry and daughter Elizabeth. He enjoys his studies of the Bible and all things outdoors especially hunting.

Meet Our Deacons

Based on the Deacon Ministry established by the first century church (Acts 6:1-7), the ministry of Lighthouse’s Deacons is to glorify God by serving His body, helping to create community by lovingly and compassionately caring for the people that He has entrusted to our church, and providing practical services to our church and its people.

Deacons have the honor of modeling, for the local church and the lost world, God’s compassion, kindness, mercy and love. As the church compassionately cares for people’s needs, members and attendees will grow in their commitment to each other thereby developing a sense of community and the world will see a visible display of Christ’s love, drawing some people to the Savior. Deacons are to be an example of commitment, unity and harmony in their service.

In addition to Communion and contribution counting responsibilities, Deacons serve in three areas:

Community Building

Deacons assure that care is extended to families and individuals. Deacons work with ABFs and existing ministry groups to encourage and actively participate in caregiving.

Visitation

Deacons work with Care Ministry to provide encouragement and comfort while visiting people who are ill, hospitalized, homebound, or in prison, as well as caring for families experiencing bereavement.

Serving

Deacons serve the church body by participating in service projects to assist the needs of widows, elderly and others within the body who do not have appropriate resources or abilities to do so themselves.  In conjunction with Care Ministry leaders,  Deacons serve on the Benevolence Fund Committee. This committee administers the Benevolence Fund to meet people’s basic needs. Care Ministry leaders who become aware of financial needs are asked to complete a Benevolence Fund Request and submit it to the Care Ministry office.
