As we stand on the threshold of a new year, this sermon calls believers to examine their spiritual direction and commit to intentional growth in Christ. Drawing from 2 Peter 3:18 —“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” — the message emphasizes a clear truth: every believer is moving in one of two directions. We are either growing spiritually or retracting. There is no spiritual neutral.

Just as physical life is marked by growth, spiritual life must also mature. A lack of growth signals something is wrong. Scripture repeatedly calls believers to “grow up in Christ” (Ephesians 4), affirming that growth is not optional but a natural result of genuine faith.

To explain how growth happens, the sermon introduces a framework built around the word "GROW."

G – Give God First Place in All Things

True growth begins with priority. Believers are called to glorify God in everything (1 Corinthians 10:31). The early church modeled this devotion in **Acts 2:42–47**, committing themselves to God’s Word, fellowship, prayer, and worship. Giving God first place means committing our time, families, and resources fully to Him. Jesus’ words in **Luke 9:57–62** underscore that discipleship is not about convenience — Christ must be first and foremost.

R – Rely on God Through Persistent Prayer

Spiritual growth requires dependence on God through prayer. Scripture commands believers to be steadfast in prayer (**Colossians 4:2**) and to “pray without ceasing” (**1 Thessalonians 5:17**). While planning is wise, prayer acknowledges God’s sovereignty and invites His guidance. God has designed His work to move forward through a praying people.

O – Organize for Equipping and Evangelism

God equips every believer for ministry. Passages like **Ephesians 4:12**, **1 Corinthians 12**, and **1 Peter 4:10** teach that spiritual gifts are given not for personal recognition, but for serving others and building up the church. Growth requires organizing our lives around faithful service and evangelism.

W – Worship God With a Passion That Fuels the Mission

Worship is the heartbeat of growth. It is not about personal preference but about God Himself — who He is and what He has done. True worship fuels obedience, service, and mission.

As we move into the new year, the challenge is clear: grow or retreat. By giving God first place, relying on Him in prayer, serving faithfully, and worshiping passionately, believers can move forward in grace and purpose for God’s glory.
